Kea Sustainability Event with Murray Ward, Principal, Global Climate Change Consultancy (GtripleC)

Trillions of extra dollars need to be invested globally between now and 2050 to address climate change. Where will this money come from? How will it affect New Zealand? What role does NZ’s new emissions trading scheme play in this?

Murray Ward, Principal of GtripleC will be demystifying carbon markets and climate change finance, and providing insights in to the current status of New Zealand’s Emissions Trading Scheme.

As principal negotiator for New Zealand (NZ) on critical elements of the Kyoto Protocol, Murray is an expert in the political, legal and technical underpinnings of the complex, multilayered international climate change regime.

In 2000 Murray chaired the drafting group that finalised the rules for national carbon emissions accounting and international carbon emissions trading under the Kyoto Protocol.  From 2002 to 2005 he chaired the work that developed the standards for the registry systems that support the regime (national registries and international transaction log).

Since the Kyoto Protocol came into force in 2005, Murray has been working internationally as a climate change consultant with GtripleC, an international climate change consultancy, founded in Wellington and now based in London. The consultancy specialises in all aspects of work that seek to secure, robust and enduring means for the international community to address global climate change after the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol comes to an end, post-2012.

The event will also be used as a platform to discuss sustainability issues and trends here and in NZ, and we would especially welcome members who work in this area and who are looking to network with others across the wide range of sectors that sustainability encompasses.
